Making a Book Trailer~ Self Publishing a Christian Novel!

princess-face-for-blog

My first novel “A Hero at Heart” has been published here on Amazon.com and now it’s time to share! I’ve been having a blast with digital art to create a book trailer for my story. Digital art has been such a fun adventure and I’m going to really enjoy putting this together. I’ll be posting updates and letting you know when the trailer is out on Youtube!

A Hero at Heart is a story about compassion, forgiveness and the true meaning of heroism. It centers around an imaginative girl in the 1800s who dreams of becoming a hero. But, she soon realizes that being a hero often throws you out of your comfort zone and requires you to be selfless. Facing her own faults, and an enemy who she’s learned to hate, she turns to Jesus for help and learns that He is the greatest hero of all.

I hope to move right along with this book trailer and get it out soon! In the meantime, check out my first video on Youtube and tell me what you think! You can also read the first few chapters on Amazon.com! Have a great day and I’ll see you next time!

Whimsical Pet Portrait ~ Mixed Media Painting

Here’s the latest painting that I’ve finished! I had so much fun with this one! I was commissioned to create a whimsical pet portrait with a poodle, a dingo and a little, black cat having tea with Alice in Wonderland. Dreaming up the items on the table was a blast! I decided to use a mixture of acrylics and watercolors for this painting and I learned a lot from the experience. I think it would be so much fun to do more custom pet portraits like this one! I love the idea of setting pets in whimsical, story book scenes!

Writing, Painting, Querying Agents ~ I’ve been busy!

Huckleberry Picking WIP small

I haven’t written a post for so long! Wow, I am such a bad blogger. At least I haven’t neglected my writing and art as terribly as I’ve neglected this website! I have been busy writing two new novels, illustrating my story “Huckleberry Pie” and learning all the dos and don’ts of writing query letters! Now that’s where my poor brain gets thrown for a loop! But, it has been fun, challenging and…I’ve definitely learned a lot from it. Since I haven’t finished a painting for quite a while, I thought it would be fun to share a work in progress with you all! This is another illustration from “Huckleberry Pie”. Once I’m finished with it, I’ll be sending a few query letters out for that story as well. Don’t forget to check out my new blog theresastinnett.wordpress.com. There you can see a portfolio of my work and keep up to date with my illustrating progress!

The Strawberry Patch ~ Pastel Drawing by Theresa Stinnett

Here’s one of my latest drawings. I created this picture using pastels on watercolor paper. It isn’t the easiest combination to work with, sanded paper would have been so much better. But, it was a fun project nonetheless. This little mouse is based on a character from one of my future books,¬†Huckleberry Pie. I can’t wait to illustrate that story and begin the journey toward publication! If I could just get enough artistic inspiration to finish illustrating it!

Illustrated Birthday Card ~ Watercolor Painting

Gruff's Birthday Card small

This little painted card was a gift to my wonderful Dad on his birthday! As a cautious artist, I pushed myself to play with bolder colors than I’m used to in this painting. Using opposite colors for the shading was definitely fun! Now, let’s see if I can make my Dad a cheesecake that is just as special as the one these forest creatures are enjoying. These three little animals are all characters from my upcoming story “Huckleberry Pie”. I hope to show you some illustrations of that story soon! Until then, enjoy the summer!

Sketching Illustrations for a Children’s Story

image

I’ve been sketching! This is the beginning of an illustration for my upcoming story “Huckleberry Pie”. It’s about a little hedgehog and the trouble he meets while out picking huckleberries in the forest. Soon I will be bringing some color into this drawing with watercolors and beginning the next illustration!

When I was a girl, picking huckleberries was one of my favorite things to do! I loved the quiet woods and the sweet and sour treats. While I was still really little, I began to dream up stories about a little hedgehog who did all of the things I loved to do. I completely enjoyed bringing my childhood dream to life by writing this story. It’s the first book in a series of three so far, and hopefully I’ll be able to think up another one soon. I’m still readying myself to write a query letter for this tale and send it off to a literary agent for consideration. Such an exciting thought!

Goldie Fish ~ Watercolor Painting by Theresa Stinnett

It has been far too long since I wrote a post! I have been busy with writing and all the common activities of life, but I have been totally negligent when it comes to art. So, the best I could do was share a picture from long ago with all of you. This is just a simple, watercolor sketch, really. I did it on the spur of the moment just for fun when I was first experimenting with ink and paint. Now, I can feel my creativity building, so hopefully it won’t be too long before I’m back at it with pencil and paintbrush. Until then, enjoy the summer and have a wonderful day!

Happy Mother’s Day – Song Bird Painting

image

Another Mother’s Day has come around and this year I am just as blessed as ever! I cannot express how dear my mom is to me. She is my best friend and my role model. When I think about my mom, her love and sweetness puts a song in my heart. That’s why I decided to paint this little bird, singing his heart out. Somehow, I love painting musical notation and sweet creatures together. I’m hoping to make this painting available as fine art prints, greeting cards and iPhone & Galaxy Cases soon. To all the mothers out there, I wish you a wonderful day!

Enjoying Spring – Sketching – Drawing

image

Just a a simple sketch to appreciate the beautiful Spring weather we’re having! I can’t believe how fast time is flying! We’re heading into May and I still feel like my mind is stuck in March. Well, here is what I’m looking forward to this Spring and Summer: I’ve completed a novel for preteens +, and I have a lineup of children’s stories that are begging for illustrations. That should keep me busy for a while. My latest novel is centered around an imaginative girl who dreams of becoming¬†a hero. I’m so excited that it’s complete! Now comes the scary part, presenting it to an agent and aiming toward publication.
